Fuming voter brands Yvette Cooper ‘two-faced’ as she hands out mince pies at Christmas ‘rather than blankets to the freezing elderly’_Nhy

Yvette Cooper was accused of being ‘two-faced’ for handing out mince pies while pensioners are ‘freezing to death’.

The Home Secretary was confronted by a furious voter who said she would be better off donating blankets to the elderly than delivering members of the public festive treats during a visit to Knottingley, West Yorkshire.

In footage shared on social media, the voter can be heard attacking Ms Cooper over Labour’s controversial decision to winter fuel payments to pensioners.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves sparked a wave of anger when she decided to scrap the universal entitlement to the benefit, blaming a financial black hole inherited from the Conservatives.

During the confrontation, the voter criticises Ms Cooper for a range of decisions, including Labour’s refusal to compensate the Waspi women and scrapping the Rwanda scheme.

She also accused Labour of trying to stop Elon Musk from donating to Reform UK after leader Nigel Farage claimed the Tesla and X billionaire was set to invest millions in his party.

Ms Cooper, who is wearing a Santa hat while she hands out mince pies on a tray in a supermarket, is approached by the voter who tells the Home Secretary: ‘I’m just shocked seeing you in Knottingley, giving mince pies out to people. For what reason?’

She then asks if the mince pies are being given to pensioners, saying: ‘I think you should warm them up, keep them warm at Christmas.’

The voter turned one down

She adds: ‘I hope you’re not going to win this time, I hope you’re out next time. I really do.’

Ms Cooper then offers the voter a mince pie and a Labour leaflet but the voter tells her: ‘The thing is, you’ve betrayed everything that everybody voted for you for, in everything.’

She adds: ‘Pensioners, Waspi… what about when you got that photo done and all that with Waspi women. You changed your mind with that.’

Ms Cooper faced a backlash earlier this week after resurfaced photos showed her posing with Waspi campaigners in the past.

Labour has prompted anger with their decision to refuse compensation for the Waspi women, having already sparked the ire of pensioners for stripping millions of their winter fuel payments.

A charity single parodying the policy, called Freezing This Christmas by Sir Keir Starmer and the Granny Harmers, has topped the music downloads charts in the run-up to Christmas.

As Ms Cooper is being confronted, she tries to defend Labour’s decisions, insisting the Government is ‘trying to cut asylum hotels’. But the voter replies: ‘No, you’ve got more. You’ve cut Rwanda, you’ve cut everything, this is a joke.’

She adds: ‘Now you’re going to stop Elon donating, everything is, like, changing.’

As the voter walks away, Ms Cooper says she hopes she has a ‘lovely Christmas’, but the woman replies: ‘I hope you don’t.’

It is understood that Ms Cooper has been handing out mince pies in her constituency of Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley for 20 years.

While being confronted, Ms Cooper told her: ‘Everybody’s got different views, haven’t they, but it is Christmas time. It is Christmas.’

It has been suggested that the voter is a ‘very active’ Reform UK supporter who has targeted Ms Cooper with abusive emails in the past.
