Recently, Disney was met with a hostile response to the latest trailer for the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” remake. Since details about the film emerged last year, Disney received intense criticism for allegedly being a woke rendition of a beloved classic film while facing several controversies that have irked audiences.
The trailer for the film, set to release in March 2025, was recently released on YouTube, garnering over 7 million views. However, the ratio of likes to dislikes is quite telling about how audiences feel about the upcoming movie. As of writing this article, the trailer had over 73,000 upvotes but was simultaneously downvoted roughly 900,000 times.
The latest rendition of “Snow White” has drawn backlash for numerous reasons. First, the lead actress playing Snow White, Rachel Zegler, made public comments disparaging the original film for supposedly being sexist, while indicating the new film would be the exact opposite. Furthermore, actor Peter Dinklage, a dwarf, slammed Disney for hiring others with the condition to play the Seven Dwarves. As a result, the company caved and resorted to using CGI to create the characters.
As Breitbart News’ John Nolte put it, “Part of the disgust undoubtedly has to do with all the controversy around the movie. Instead of promoting her movie, Snow White’s star, the insufferable Rachel Zegler, spent most of her time attacking the original, beloved 1937 classic as sexist and dated. Little Miss Smug assured everyone her Snow White would be empowered and improved and would correct everything “””wrong””” with the original. No Prince Charming was going to stalk her, no sir!”
Nolte continued, addressing the controversy with Dinklage. “Then there was Disney’s cowardly decision to cave to Peter Dinklage. Dinklage is a m*dget who went public to address his outrage at the very idea of Snow White casting other m*dgets as the dwarfs. On top of being a very good actor, Peter’s pretty slick. There is nothing wrong with casting dwarfs as dwarfs. He knows that. So the cunning actor employed a little sensitivity fascism to ensure no other little people would break out in Snow White and then compete with him for roles,” he said.
Last year, The American Tribune covered controversy surrounding the film, where it was reported that it had to be delayed because of the backlash. “Disney had to delay ‘Snow White’ because they have spent so much money on it, and if it is a financial disaster at the box office, it might single-handedly cripple future remakes and potential ‘Snow White’ sequels that they have planned,” an insider said.
The insider added, “They also have to remove themselves from the bad taste in the mouths of online critics and want to instead deliver a great film and get to a point where they get it right. They realize that they were overthinking things and are now reigning it all in a little bit more,” the source noted. “They just need some time to figure it all out – plus we are still dealing with the strikes. It is a perfect storm right now, but they are embracing change and anticipate it all to work out and exceed expectations. The work starts now.”
