Jill Biden sparks huge backlash by leading White House cabinet meeting: ‘Who is running the country?’

First Lady Jill Biden has sparked outrage after she spoke at the first White House cabinet meeting in a year.

President Joe Biden convened his Cabinet on Friday for the first time since last October and was joined by the First Lady who spoke about women’s health research.

In explaining her presence at the session, Biden said: ‘First Ladies have attended these meetings in the past for specific reasons.

‘This is the first time Jill has joined us, and it underscores the importance of the issue she’s about to address’, before handing over to her he added; ‘It’s all yours, kid’.

According to The New York Post, Biden spent much of his two minute intro talking about the first lady, who went on to speak for four and half minutes.

The outlet drew a comparison between the First Lady and Edith Wilson, who kept tight control over President Woodrow Wilson after he suffered a stroke.

This comparison was referenced online by Greg Price, who added: ‘She’s literally Edith Wilson except right out in the open in a 24/7 news cycle and nobody in the media cares.’

Political commentator also posted about the First Lady kicking off the meeting, posting: ‘Jill Biden is kicking off the first cabinet meeting the White House has had in almost a year and we’re expected to act like this is normal.’

Steve Cortes, a previous adviser to former President Donald Trump, described Biden as looking ‘visibly exhausted’.

He posted: ‘Wow. A visibly exhausted Joe Biden just held a full Cabinet Meeting for the first time in 11 months and immediately turned the mic over to his wife. Who is running the country?’

Matt Kadish added: ‘This is basically them admitting that Jill’s been the one actually running things all this time.’

While Randy Weber, Representative for the 14th Congressional District of Texas, added: ‘Sleepy Joe is asleep at the wheel again.’

The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis sarcastically posted: ‘I wasn’t aware that our constitutional system of government bestowed any power whatsoever to the unelected wife of the figurehead president.’

Comedian Tim Young also added: ‘Jill Biden is the head of the table at the cabinet meeting.

‘No one voted for her to be there, this must be part of her deal to have Joe drop out of the race. She has no reason to be there.’

In a statement to Fox News, White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said: ‘Before President Biden updated his cabinet and the country on the continued achievements of the most successful administration in modern history, he asked the First Lady to join for the top of the meeting to showcase groundbreaking work they are leading to fundamentally change how we fund and approach women’s health research.

‘If the only response these critics have are conspiracy theories that devalue historic progress researching women’s health – including terrible diseases – then that says a lot about why more and more American women feel that the right couldn’t care less about them, including as it pushes radical abortion bans.’

President Biden left the White House following the cabinet meeting to prepare for a weekend summiting with the leaders of the ‘Quad’, Australia, India and Japan.

Biden exited the presidential race on July 21 after his terrible debate performance against Donald Trump, which led to concerns about his mental abilities.

Prior to Biden relinquishing the party’s nomination, Jill Biden was regarded as the most powerful First Lady in over a century, holding strong influence in the West Wing.
