Shift in teenage voters’ attitudes reflects their profound sense of betrayal_Nhy

This poll is devastating news for the two main parties, both of which are facing a crisis of credibility among young people. As disillusion with the political establishment continues to mount, traditional voting allegiances are breaking down.

In defiance of conventional wisdom – which holds that the young tend to be drawn to Left-wing radicalism – it is Reform that is the big gainer from this mood.

For all its unorthodox findings, this poll does not surprise me. It chimes with the research I have conducted on the rise of populism in Britain and the West in response to the comprehensive failure of our ruling elites.

This shift to the Right reflects a profound sense of betrayal among young people. Many feel badly let down by the Conservatives and Labour, who seem interested only in propping up the wealthy, property-rich Baby Boomers, and a welfare-dependent class of low-skilled migrants.

In contrast, young Britons are loaded with debt from student loans, struggle to get on the housing ladder, and face fierce competition for jobs in a stagnant, over-taxed economy.

When I appeared on BBC Question Time last week, I condemned successive governments for their mishandling of immigration that has not only imposed a burden on our civic infrastructure but has also undermined our national integrity and solidarity.

Our once well-ordered society is scarred by sectarian politics, random violence and rampant misogyny.

Not that the young feel they can point this out. For much of their schooling, they have been taught bogus concepts such as ‘white privilege’.

Boys have been warned about ‘toxic masculinity’, making them feel like rapists-in-waiting, while girls have watched the spread of sexual assaults in Europe in horror – which interestingly the MeToo movement ignored.

But as teens understand more of the world, the scales fall from their eyes.

The rise of Reform, like the rise of Donald Trump, is a backlash against the woke agenda.

In his Munich speech on Friday, US Vice-President JD Vance caused outrage with his attack on the failure of Britain and Europe to defend ‘fundamental values’.

But he was right – and young Reform supporters agree.
